Queen Liliʻuokalani
Queen Liliʻuokalani was the last reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaii, serving from 1891 until 1893. Born on September 2, 1838, she was a skilled musician and composer, known for her famous song "Aloha ʻOe." Liliʻuokalani sought to restore the power of the monarchy and protect Hawaiian sovereignty during a time of increasing foreign influence.
In January 1893, a group of American and European businessmen, supported by the U.S. government, orchestrated a coup that led to her overthrow. Following her removal, Liliʻuokalani spent years advocating for the rights of Native Hawaiians and the restoration of the monarchy, leaving a lasting legacy in Hawaiian history.
