Queen Amélie of Portugal
Queen Amélie of Portugal was born on September 28, 1865, in the city of Alcântara, Portugal. She was the daughter of Prince Louis of Orléans and Princess Maria Isabel of Portugal. Amélie became queen consort when she married King Carlos I of Portugal in 1886. Her reign was marked by political turmoil and social change in Portugal.
Amélie was known for her charitable work and support of the arts. After the assassination of her husband in 1908, she and her family faced significant challenges. Following the Portuguese Republican Revolution in 1910, Amélie went into exile, living in various countries until her death on May 28, 1951.
