Puppet State
A puppet state is a political entity that is officially independent but is heavily influenced or controlled by another, more powerful state. This control can manifest through economic, military, or political means, often undermining the puppet state's sovereignty. Puppet states may have their own governments, but their decisions are typically dictated by the interests of the controlling power.
Historically, puppet states have emerged during conflicts or colonial periods. For example, during World War II, the Vichy regime in France acted as a puppet state for Nazi Germany. Such arrangements can lead to significant tensions and conflicts, as the puppet state's population may resist external control.
