Psychiatric Service Dog
A Psychiatric Service Dog (PSD) is a specially trained canine that assists individuals with mental health conditions, such as PTSD, anxiety, or depression. These dogs perform tasks that help mitigate their handler's symptoms, providing support and enhancing their quality of life.
Unlike emotional support animals, PSDs are trained to perform specific tasks, such as alerting their handler to anxiety attacks or providing deep pressure therapy during distress. They are recognized under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and can accompany their handlers in public spaces where pets are not allowed.
