Prop Roots
Prop roots are specialized roots that grow from the stem of a plant and extend down into the soil for support. They help stabilize the plant, especially in areas with strong winds or shallow soil. Commonly found in plants like the mangrove and banyan tree, these roots can also absorb water and nutrients.
These roots emerge from the lower part of the stem and can grow several feet long. In addition to providing structural support, prop roots can help the plant adapt to its environment by allowing it to thrive in challenging conditions, such as coastal regions or flood-prone areas.
