Pope Silverius
Pope Silverius served as the pope from 536 to 537 AD. He was the son of a Roman priest named Pope Hormisdas and became pope during a tumultuous time in the early Christian Church. His papacy was marked by political strife, particularly due to the influence of the Byzantine Empire and the ongoing conflict with the Arian heresy.
Silverius faced opposition from the empress Theodora, who favored the Arian faction. He was eventually deposed and exiled by the Byzantine general Belisarius. After his removal, Silverius died in exile, and he is remembered as a martyr by some in the Catholic Church.
