NASA's OSIRIS-REx
NASA's OSIRIS-REx is a space mission designed to study and collect samples from the near-Earth asteroid Bennu. Launched in September 2016, the spacecraft traveled over 200 million miles to reach its target, arriving in December 2018.
The mission aims to gather at least 60 grams of material from Bennu's surface and return it to Earth for analysis. This sample return will help scientists learn more about the formation of the solar system and the origins of water and organic materials on Earth. The return of the samples is scheduled for September 2023.
