Mesoamerican Manuscripts
Mesoamerican manuscripts are ancient texts created by the civilizations of Mesoamerica, including the Maya, Aztec, and Mixtec. These manuscripts were often made from materials like bark paper or animal skins and featured intricate illustrations, glyphs, and symbols. They served various purposes, such as recording historical events, religious rituals, and astronomical observations.
Many of these manuscripts were destroyed during the Spanish conquest, but some survived and provide valuable insights into the cultures and languages of the region. Notable examples include the Dresden Codex, which is one of the oldest surviving Maya books, and the Codex Mendoza, an important Aztec document.
