Marula
The Marula tree, scientifically known as *Sclerocarya birrea*, is native to southern Africa. It typically grows in savanna regions and can reach heights of up to 18 meters. The tree produces small, round fruits that are yellow when ripe and are rich in vitamin C. These fruits are not only enjoyed by local wildlife, such as elephants and monkeys, but are also harvested by people for various uses.
The Marula fruit is often fermented to create a traditional alcoholic beverage called amarula, which is popular in many African cultures. Additionally, the oil extracted from the seeds is used in cosmetics and cooking due to its moisturizing properties. The tree is also valued for its wood, which is used in furniture and crafts.
