Ligament Injury
A ligament injury occurs when a ligament, which is a band of tissue connecting bones at a joint, is stretched or torn. This type of injury often happens during sports or physical activities, especially when a sudden twist or impact occurs. Common symptoms include pain, swelling, and limited movement in the affected area.
The severity of a ligament injury can vary, ranging from a mild sprain to a complete tear. Treatment typically involves rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE), along with physical therapy to restore strength and flexibility. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to repair the damaged ligament.
