Homonym: Tear (Rip)
A "tear" is a drop of clear, salty liquid that comes from the eyes, usually as a response to emotions like sadness, joy, or frustration. Tears are produced by the lacrimal glands and serve to keep the eyes moist and protected from irritants.
In addition to emotional responses, tears can also occur due to physical factors, such as onions causing irritation or allergies. There are three types of tears: basal tears, which keep the eyes lubricated; reflex tears, which respond to irritants; and emotional tears, which are linked to feelings.
