Li Shizhen
Li Shizhen was a prominent Chinese physician and pharmacologist during the Ming Dynasty. Born in 1518, he is best known for his comprehensive work, the Bencao Gangmu, or "Compendium of Materia Medica," which catalogs thousands of medicinal substances and their uses. His meticulous research and observations laid the foundation for traditional Chinese medicine.
