Lateral Ligaments of the Ankle
The lateral ligaments of the ankle are a group of three key ligaments located on the outer side of the ankle joint. These ligaments include the anterior talofibular ligament, calcaneofibular ligament, and posterior talofibular ligament. They play a crucial role in stabilizing the ankle during movement and preventing excessive side-to-side motion.
Injuries to the lateral ligaments, often referred to as ankle sprains, commonly occur during activities that involve twisting or rolling the ankle. Such injuries can lead to pain, swelling, and difficulty walking. Proper rehabilitation and strengthening exercises are essential for recovery and to prevent future injuries.
