Medial Ligaments of the Ankle
The medial ligaments of the ankle, primarily known as the deltoid ligament, are a group of strong ligaments located on the inner side of the ankle. They connect the tibia to the bones of the foot, providing stability and support during movement. The deltoid ligament consists of several parts, including the anterior tibiotalar, tibionavicular, tibiocalcaneal, and posterior tibiotalar ligaments.
These ligaments play a crucial role in preventing excessive eversion of the foot, which can lead to injuries. When the ankle is subjected to stress, such as during sports or uneven surfaces, the medial ligaments help maintain proper alignment and function, reducing the risk of sprains and other injuries.
