Korean Spirits
Korean spirits, known as soju and makgeolli, are traditional alcoholic beverages in South Korea. Soju is a clear, distilled liquor typically made from rice, barley, or sweet potatoes, and has a mild flavor with an alcohol content ranging from 16% to 25%. It is often enjoyed straight or mixed in cocktails.
Makgeolli is a milky, fermented rice wine with a slightly sweet taste and lower alcohol content, usually around 6% to 8%. It is made from a mixture of rice, water, and a fermentation starter called nuruk. Both drinks play a significant role in Korean culture and are commonly consumed during meals and celebrations.
