King Pedro IV of Portugal
King Pedro IV of Portugal, also known as Pedro I of Brazil, was born on October 12, 1798. He became King of Portugal in 1826 after the death of his father, King John VI. His reign was marked by political turmoil and the struggle for constitutional monarchy in Portugal.
In addition to his role in Portugal, Pedro IV played a significant part in Brazil's independence from Portugal in 1822, where he became its first emperor. He abdicated the Brazilian throne in favor of his son, Pedro II, in 1831 and returned to Portugal, where he continued to influence political developments until his death in 1834.
