King Michael I of Romania
King Michael I of Romania was born on October 25, 1921, and became the King of Romania twice, first from 1927 to 1930 and then from 1940 to 1947. He was the last reigning monarch of Romania and played a significant role during World War II, initially aligning with the Axis powers before switching to the Allies in 1944.
In December 1947, King Michael I was forced to abdicate by the Communist government, which led to the establishment of a socialist republic in Romania. He lived in exile for several decades before returning to Romania after the fall of communism in 1989, where he was welcomed as a national figure.
