Key Stages
Key Stages are specific points in the educational system in England that help to assess a child's progress. They are divided into four main stages: Key Stage 1 (ages 5-7), Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11), Key Stage 3 (ages 11-14), and Key Stage 4 (ages 14-16). Each stage has set learning objectives and assessments to ensure students are meeting national standards.
At the end of each Key Stage, students take assessments to evaluate their knowledge and skills. For example, Key Stage 1 includes assessments in reading, writing, and mathematics, while Key Stage 4 culminates in the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) exams. These assessments help inform parents, teachers, and schools about a child's educational development.
