Kalmyks
The Kalmyks are a Mongolic ethnic group primarily residing in the Kalmykia region of Russia. They are known for their unique culture, which blends elements of Tibetan Buddhism and traditional nomadic lifestyles. The Kalmyks are the only Buddhist people in Europe, and their history is marked by migration from the Mongolian steppes in the 17th century.
The Kalmyk language belongs to the Mongolic languages and is closely related to Buryat and Mongolian. The community has a rich tradition of oral literature, music, and dance, reflecting their historical experiences and cultural values. Today, the Kalmyks continue to preserve their heritage while integrating into modern Russian society.
