Kalmyk Language
The Kalmyk language is a member of the Mongolic language family, primarily spoken by the Kalmyk people in the Republic of Kalmykia, Russia. It is the only Mongolic language in Europe and has around 100,000 speakers. The language uses the Cyrillic script, which was adopted in the 1940s, although it has historical ties to the Classical Mongolian script.
Kalmyk is influenced by various languages, including Russian and Buddhist terminology, reflecting the region's cultural heritage. The language is vital for preserving the unique identity and traditions of the Kalmyk community, and efforts are ongoing to promote its use in education and media.
