Jacobite rising of 1715
The Jacobite rising of 1715 was an attempt by supporters of the House of Stuart to restore James Francis Edward Stuart, known as the Old Pretender, to the British throne. Following the death of Queen Anne in 1714, many loyalists believed that the Stuart claim to the throne should be recognized, leading to a rebellion in Scotland.
The uprising began in September 1715 and saw a series of battles between Jacobite forces and government troops. Despite initial successes, the rebellion ultimately failed, culminating in the defeat at the Battle of Preston in November 1715. The aftermath led to increased repression of Jacobite sympathizers in Scotland.
