Old Pretender
The "Old Pretender" refers to James Francis Edward Stuart, the son of King James II of England. He was born in 1688 and became a symbol of the Jacobite cause, which sought to restore the Stuart monarchy to the British throne after the Glorious Revolution. His claim to the throne was based on his lineage, as he was the rightful heir according to his supporters.
After his father's deposition, the Old Pretender lived in exile, primarily in France. He made several attempts to reclaim the throne, including the failed Jacobite risings in 1715. Despite his efforts, he never succeeded, and he eventually settled in Italy, where he died in 1766.
