Iraqi Governing Council
The Iraqi Governing Council was established in July 2003, following the fall of the Saddam Hussein regime. It was created by the Coalition Provisional Authority to serve as a transitional government and to help guide Iraq towards democracy. The council consisted of 25 members, representing various ethnic and religious groups in Iraq, and aimed to promote national unity.
The council played a crucial role in drafting a new constitution and preparing for elections. It operated until June 2004, when sovereignty was transferred back to the Iraqi people, marking a significant step in the country's political transition after years of dictatorship.
