Indigenous Peoples of Taiwan
The Indigenous Peoples of Taiwan are the original inhabitants of the island, with a history that dates back thousands of years. They belong to various tribes, each with its own distinct language, culture, and traditions. Some of the major tribes include the Amis, Atayal, and Paiwan. These groups have rich cultural practices, including traditional music, dance, and crafts.
Today, there are approximately 16 officially recognized Indigenous tribes in Taiwan. The government has made efforts to preserve their languages and cultures, which are at risk due to modernization. Indigenous communities continue to advocate for their rights and seek recognition of their unique heritage within Taiwanese society.
