Indigenous Peoples of Russia
The Indigenous Peoples of Russia are diverse groups that have lived in the region for thousands of years. They include ethnic groups such as the Sami, Nenets, Chukchi, and Evenki, each with their own unique languages, cultures, and traditions. These communities primarily inhabit the northern and eastern parts of Russia, often relying on traditional practices like reindeer herding, fishing, and hunting for their livelihoods.
Many Indigenous Peoples face challenges due to modernization and environmental changes, which threaten their traditional ways of life. The Russian government recognizes some of these groups as Indigenous, granting them certain rights and protections, but issues related to land use and cultural preservation remain significant concerns.
