India Office
The India Office was a British government department responsible for managing British interests in India during the colonial period. Established in 1858, it oversaw the administration of British territories in India after the dissolution of the East India Company. The office played a crucial role in policy-making and governance until India gained independence in 1947.
Located in London, the India Office housed important records and documents related to British rule in India. It also served as a communication hub between the British government and its officials in India. Today, the building is part of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and holds historical significance.
