ICSI, or Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection, is a specialized form of assisted reproductive technology. It involves directly injecting a single sperm into an egg to facilitate fertilization. This technique is often used in cases of male infertility, where sperm quality or quantity may be low. The ICSI procedure is typically performed during an in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle. After the eggs are retrieved from the ovaries, a selected sperm is injected into each egg. If fertilization occurs, the resulting embryos can be transferred to the uterus, increasing the chances of pregnancy.
