Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a group of more than 200 related viruses, some of which can cause health problems, including genital warts and various cancers. HPV is primarily transmitted through intimate skin-to-skin contact, making it one of the most common sexually transmitted infections. Most sexually active individuals will contract HPV at some point in their lives, but many will not develop symptoms or health issues.
Vaccines are available to protect against the most harmful types of HPV, particularly those linked to cervical cancer and other cancers such as throat cancer and anal cancer. Regular screenings, like Pap smears, can help detect early changes in cervical cells caused by HPV, allowing for timely intervention and treatment.
