Historically Black Fraternities
Historically Black Fraternities are Greek-letter organizations founded primarily for African American men. These fraternities emerged in the early 20th century, during a time when racial segregation limited opportunities for Black students in higher education. The first of these organizations, Alpha Phi Alpha, was established in 1906 at Cornell University.
These fraternities focus on academic excellence, community service, and brotherhood. They provide support networks for their members and promote leadership development. Other notable organizations include Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, and Phi Beta Sigma, each contributing to the cultural and social fabric of African American communities.
