Herodium
Herodium is an ancient fortress and palace built by King Herod the Great around 23 BCE. Located near Bethlehem in the West Bank, it served as a luxurious retreat and a strategic military stronghold. The site features a large artificial hill topped with a circular palace, surrounded by impressive fortifications and a network of underground tunnels.
The structure is notable for its unique design, including a large pool and gardens. After Herod's death, Herodium became a significant site during the Jewish Revolt against Roman rule. Today, it is an important archaeological site, attracting visitors interested in ancient history.
