Hero and Leander
"Hero and Leander" is a tragic love story from ancient Greek mythology. It tells the tale of Hero, a priestess of Aphrodite, who lives in Sestos and falls in love with Leander, a young man from Abydos. They meet secretly, as Hero's position requires her to remain chaste. Each night, Leander swims across the Hellespont to be with her, guided by the light of a lantern she holds.
Their love story takes a tragic turn when a storm extinguishes Hero's lantern, causing Leander to lose his way and drown. Heartbroken, Hero takes her own life by jumping into the sea. Their tale has inspired various works of art and literature throughout history, symbolizing the themes of love and sacrifice.
