Sestos
Sestos is an ancient city located on the Thracian coast of the Hellespont, in present-day Turkey. It was known for its strategic position, serving as a gateway between Europe and Asia. Sestos played a significant role in various historical events, particularly during the Persian Wars and the Peloponnesian War.
The city is also famous for its association with the myth of Hero and Leander. According to the legend, Leander would swim across the Hellespont each night to meet his beloved Hero, a priestess of Aphrodite. Their tragic love story has inspired numerous works of art and literature throughout history.
