Hanukkah Menorahs
A Hanukkah menorah, also known as a hanukkiah, is a special candelabrum used during the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. It has nine branches: eight for each night of the holiday and one, called the shamash, used to light the others. The menorah is typically placed in a window or doorway to publicize the miracle of the oil that lasted eight days.
During Hanukkah, families light the menorah each night, adding one candle for each evening until all eight are lit. This tradition commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem and the miracle of the oil that occurred during the Maccabean revolt.
