hanukkiah
A hanukkiah is a special menorah used during the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. It has nine branches: eight for each night of the holiday and one, called the shamash, used to light the others. The hanukkiah is typically placed in a visible location to publicize the miracle of Hanukkah.
During the eight nights of Hanukkah, a new candle is lit each evening, starting with the shamash. The lighting of the hanukkiah commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem and the miracle of the oil that lasted eight days, despite there being only enough for one.
