Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
Gulbuddin Hekmatyar is an Afghan politician and former military leader, known for his role in the Afghan civil war during the 1990s. He was the leader of the Hezb-e Islami party and received support from the United States and Pakistan during the Soviet-Afghan War in the 1980s. Hekmatyar is often associated with his hardline Islamist views and has been a controversial figure in Afghan politics.
After years of conflict, Hekmatyar signed a peace agreement with the Afghan government in 2016, which allowed him to return to Afghanistan. Despite his past, he has sought to position himself as a unifying figure in the country, advocating for peace and stability amid ongoing challenges.
