Great Mosque of Mosul
The Great Mosque of Mosul, also known as the Al-Nuri Mosque, is a historic mosque located in the city of Mosul, Iraq. It was originally built in the 12th century and is famous for its iconic leaning minaret, known as the Al-Hadba. The mosque served as a significant religious and cultural center for the local community.
In June 2014, the mosque was destroyed by the militant group ISIS during their occupation of Mosul. The destruction of the Great Mosque of Mosul was a significant loss to the cultural heritage of Iraq, as it was an important symbol of the city’s history and architectural beauty. Efforts are ongoing to restore the mosque and its minaret.
