Gilbert de Clare, 2nd Earl of Hertford
Gilbert de Clare, 2nd Earl of Hertford (c. 1180–1230), was a prominent English nobleman during the medieval period. He was the son of Richard de Clare, 1st Earl of Hertford and Maud de Lacy. Gilbert inherited his father's title and lands, playing a significant role in the political landscape of England.
As a supporter of King John, Gilbert was involved in various military campaigns and was present at the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215. He later aligned with the barons against the king, reflecting the turbulent power struggles of the time. His legacy continued through his descendants, who remained influential in English history.
