Richard de Clare
Richard de Clare, also known as Richard Strongbow, was a prominent Anglo-Norman lord in the 12th century. He is best known for his role in the Norman invasion of Ireland, where he played a key part in the establishment of English control over parts of the country. Born around 1130, he was the son of Gilbert de Clare, the Earl of Pembroke.
Strongbow's marriage to Aoife, the daughter of the King of Leinster, solidified his power in Ireland. His military campaigns led to the capture of Dublin and other territories, making him a significant figure in Irish history.
