German colonization
German colonization refers to the period in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when the German Empire established overseas colonies. This expansion was part of a broader trend of European imperialism, with Germany acquiring territories in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. Notable colonies included German East Africa, German Southwest Africa, and the Caroline Islands.
The motivations behind German colonization included economic interests, national prestige, and the desire for new markets. The colonization often led to significant changes in the local cultures and economies, as well as conflicts with indigenous populations. Ultimately, many of these colonies were lost after World War I.
