George Green
George Green was an English mathematician and physicist, born on April 14, 1793, in Nottingham, England. He is best known for his work in mathematical physics, particularly for the development of the Green's theorem, which relates a line integral around a simple curve to a double integral over the plane region bounded by the curve. His contributions laid the groundwork for various fields, including electromagnetism and potential theory.
Despite his significant contributions, Green's work was not widely recognized during his lifetime. He published his most important paper, "An Essay on the Application of Mathematical Analysis to the Theories of Electricity and Magnetism," in 1828. It wasn't until later that his ideas gained prominence, influencing many mathematicians and scientists, including James Clerk Maxwell and Lord Kelvin.
