Gadaa system
The Gadaa system is a traditional socio-political structure of the Oromo people in Ethiopia. It organizes society into age sets and governs various aspects of life, including politics, economics, and social relations. The system operates on an eight-year cycle, during which leaders, known as Abba Gadaa, are elected to make decisions and enforce laws.
This system promotes democratic principles, as leaders are chosen by the community and must be accountable to the people. The Gadaa system also plays a crucial role in preserving the cultural identity of the Oromo, fostering unity and cooperation among its members.
