Fujimori
Alberto Fujimori is a Peruvian politician who served as the President of Peru from 1990 to 2000. He is known for implementing economic reforms that stabilized the country's economy and for his controversial approach to combating terrorism, particularly against the Shining Path insurgency. His presidency was marked by significant achievements as well as serious human rights violations.
In 2000, Fujimori fled to Japan amid a corruption scandal and later sought asylum. He was arrested in 2005 while traveling to Chile and extradited to Peru in 2007. In 2009, he was convicted of human rights abuses and corruption, receiving a lengthy prison sentence.
