Alberto Fujimori
Alberto Fujimori is a Peruvian politician who served as the President of Peru from 1990 to 2000. He was born on July 28, 1938, in Lima, Peru, to Japanese immigrant parents. Fujimori is known for implementing economic reforms that helped stabilize the country's economy during a time of hyperinflation and for his controversial approach to combating terrorism, particularly against the Shining Path group.
Fujimori's presidency was marked by significant achievements, but also by serious human rights violations and corruption scandals. In 2000, he fled to Japan amid a corruption scandal and later faced legal challenges upon his return to Peru in 2005. In 2009, he was convicted of human rights abuses and corruption, receiving a lengthy prison sentence.
