Fourth Republic of Korea
The Fourth Republic of Korea refers to the period of South Korean history from 1972 to 1987, characterized by authoritarian rule under President Park Chung-hee. This era began with the implementation of the Yushin Constitution, which granted the president extensive powers and limited political freedoms.
During this time, South Korea experienced significant economic growth, often referred to as the "Miracle on the Han River." However, political repression and civil unrest were prevalent, leading to widespread protests. The Fourth Republic ultimately ended with the June Democracy Movement in 1987, paving the way for democratic reforms.
