First Māori War
The First Māori War, also known as the New Zealand Wars, began in 1845 and lasted until 1846. It was primarily a conflict between the British colonial forces and various Māori tribes, particularly the Ngāpuhi tribe. The war was sparked by disputes over land and sovereignty, as the British sought to expand their control in New Zealand.
The conflict included notable battles such as the Battle of Ohaeawai and the Battle of Ruapekapeka. Ultimately, the war ended with a British victory, but it highlighted the tensions between the colonial government and the Māori, setting the stage for future conflicts in New Zealand.
