New Zealand Wars
The New Zealand Wars were a series of conflicts that took place between 1845 and 1872, primarily between the British colonial forces and various Māori tribes. These wars arose from disputes over land ownership and sovereignty, as European settlers increasingly encroached on Māori territories. The conflicts included notable battles such as the Battle of Ohaeawai and the Battle of Gate Pā.
The wars significantly impacted Māori society and led to substantial land loss for Māori people. The aftermath of the conflicts resulted in the establishment of the Treaty of Waitangi, which aimed to address grievances and establish a framework for Māori rights and land ownership in New Zealand.
