First Constitutional Era
The First Constitutional Era in Turkey lasted from 1876 to 1878, marking a significant shift towards constitutional governance. It began when Sultan Abdulhamid II accepted the first Ottoman Constitution, which aimed to limit his powers and establish a parliamentary system. This period saw the formation of the Ottoman Parliament and the introduction of various reforms to modernize the state.
However, the era was short-lived, as Sultan Abdulhamid II suspended the constitution in 1878, leading to a return to autocratic rule. Despite its brief existence, the First Constitutional Era laid the groundwork for future political movements and the eventual establishment of a more democratic system in Turkey.
