Fibrocartilage
Fibrocartilage is a tough and flexible type of connective tissue found in various parts of the body. It is composed of a dense network of collagen fibers, which provide strength and support. This type of cartilage is commonly located in areas that experience heavy pressure and tension, such as the intervertebral discs in the spine, the menisci in the knee, and the pubic symphysis.
Unlike other types of cartilage, such as hyaline cartilage, fibrocartilage has a more fibrous structure, making it better suited for resisting compression and absorbing shock. Its unique properties help maintain the integrity of joints and support the overall function of the skeletal system.
