menisci
The menisci are two crescent-shaped cartilage structures located in each knee joint. They sit between the femur (thigh bone) and the tibia (shin bone), acting as shock absorbers and stabilizers. Their unique shape helps distribute weight evenly across the knee, reducing friction during movement.
Each knee has a medial meniscus on the inner side and a lateral meniscus on the outer side. These structures play a crucial role in maintaining joint health and function. Injuries to the menisci can lead to pain, swelling, and limited mobility, often requiring medical attention or rehabilitation.
