Fausto Coppi
Fausto Coppi was an Italian professional cyclist, born on September 15, 1919, in Castellania. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest cyclists in history, known for his exceptional climbing ability and time-trialing skills. Coppi won the prestigious Tour de France twice, in 1949 and 1952, and claimed the Giro d'Italia five times.
In addition to his Grand Tour victories, Coppi set numerous records and was a key figure in the post-World War II cycling renaissance. His rivalry with fellow cyclist Gino Bartali captured the public's imagination and helped popularize the sport in Italy. Coppi passed away on January 2, 1960.
